Trip from Pa to Georgia via Virginia and Tennessee

Thank you to those who offered advice on roads and campgrounds. We're from eastern Pa and took I-81 south. The first night we stayed at Hungry Mother State Park. Our site had water and electric. We also stayed there on the way back and got a site with sewer as well. Paid about $45 a night. Second night we were supposed to stay at Indian Boundary Campground in the Cherokee national Forest, but the road was damaged by flooding so we stayed at Parkesville Lake also in Cherokee NF. Small campground only 16 sites. All had electric for $10 a night with the senior pass. Nice scenic campground. Then on to our destination FDR State Park in Pine Mountain Georgia. Camping under tall pine trees we had a nice large site for less than $40 per night. On the way back, they fixed the road to Indian Boundary Campground so we stayed there. This is a beautiful campground.I wish it was as easy to post pictures on here as it is on Facebook. We loved this campground. Electric only but the bathouse was right behind us and a water hydrant was next to us. They have a beautiful lake and took our Labrador Retrieved swimming. All this again for only $10 with the senior pass.Fuel prices were much cheaper in Tennessee and Georgia than in Pa and Virginia. I have a diesel pickup with a 40 gallon auxilary tank so I could drive from Pa to Knoxille ,Tennessee before refueling and I still had 3/4 of the stock tank remaining. Got diesel for $3.95 at a Buccees. The Buccees had Tesla chargers there. It took us about 10 minutes to put in 50 gallons. The people charging their electric cars were there when we got there and still there when we left. Not sure how long it takes to charge and EV but obviously longer than it took us. I was pulling a 6,000 lb trailer and averaged 11 mpg.Except for the first and last days on the road we had great weather. And the roads in Tennessee and Georgia were much better than in Pa.

DEF fluid

Is all DEF fluid the same? I usually buy the Blue DEF but it's now about $20. Our local hardware store has the Blue DEF and another one that is $12.99. I did buy the Blue DEF but just wondered if the cheaper one would be ok.

RE: Strange RV wiring.....

"and #4 copper will carry a lot of amperage. " EXACTLY, and when it chaffs on the chassis what is going to give...the #4 wire? The battery? I want a fuse right at the battery......No other way! #4 thhn has a lot of insulation, It would take a long time to rub through if ever. And most wiring I have seen running under an RV is in a loom which gives it even more protection.

electric RV appliances

I just watched a video from a large RV dealer. Not sure what all the brands are they carry, but he said he's noticing a trend for 2024 units that some manufacturers are not offering propane appliances. The units have 120/12 volt refridgerators and electric range tops and water heaters. I guess that's ok if you always have electric hookups and the electric never goes out. I love the freedom my propane appliances give me. I don't boondock a lot,but when I do I can go 4 or 5 days with my dual batteries and propane. Occassionally we may stop at a rest area and use the stove to heat up a meal and in colder weather, run the furnace to keep the camper warm. I know there's a big push to eliminate fossil fuels, but it seems that propane and camping have done the job for a long time and I don't see this changing in my lifetime. But I'm 71 so that may not be that long.

Trip from Pa to Georgia via Virginia and Tennessee

We are leaving the 17th heading down I-81 from Pa to Hungry Mother state park. Then to Parksville lake in Tenn off I-75. Anything I should know about the roads leading to those campgrounds?

RE: Strange RV wiring.....

If I am reading this correctly, having no protection from the battery to the first circuit breaker with 2 ft of #4 wire is no big deal. The wire coming from the pole into your home has no protection either. It's a short run and #4 copper will carry a lot of amperage. As to your other questions,I don't know.

RE: 12 volt transfer pump

I bought a 12 volt pump from Northern tools which hooks up to the battery. It works well since my water inlet is by the front of the trailer.I fill up a 6 gallon portable tank and then pump the water from there into the water fill on the camper. It works well.

RE: Interlock kit

You should probably not be messing with electrical panels, you seem to lack the basic understanding of how they work/supposed to work.Agree. I was an electrician for 45 years and had my own business for 34 years. You would be amazed at some of things I have seen. Electricity is not something to mess around with. You could start a fire or get someone electricuted!

RE: Indian Boundary Campground closure

https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251438 Decent road in coming from the Cleveland side. A bit easier to get to than Indian Boundary as well. Every bit as popular too. I'm a bit partial to Harrison Bay SP (also close to I-75). https://tnstateparks.com/parks/harrison-bay Have you been to Chillowee? How is that one and how's the road in?

Indian Boundary Campground closure

I received a text from Recreation.gov that Indian Boundary Campground in Tennessee will be closed from August 16th, to September 20th due to public safety concerns. We have 2 reservations there during that time. What does it mean public safety? Is anyone familiar with what is going on? This is the second time I have had a reservation at a federal campground canceled a month before we would be there. And both times there was just a vague explanation. Can anyone recommend another campground either state or federal along I75 in Tennessee.

RE: Tanks on 5th wheel, how many and how do they work?

I have had the plastic handles come off. They can be replaced easily. I have used a 1/4" wing nut screwed onto to the threaded rod temporarily to operate the valves.

RE: 2024 Trip Planning

I rarely stay at FHU campgrounds.I prefer the space and beauty of state and federal parks so I can't help you there. Now Yellowstone has Fishing Bridge which is FHU. I would really suggest staying in the park as it's as big as Rhode Island.I would say 4 days minimum in Yellowstone.5 days would be better. If you stay outside the park,it takes at least 30 minutes or more to just get into the heart of the park and an hour or so of driving to get from one attraction to another.

RE: Samsung Inverter Refrigerator.

Samsung phones are great. Their refridgerators suck. My Aunt has one and several months after the warranty ran out,the refridgerator portion stopped working. They bought it at Lowes but Lowes refused to help. After a day and a half of calling, she finally got through to customer service it took 3 days for a serviceman to get there. He spoke little English and was very rude. She asked him a question and he said " I go" and pointed to the door.It cost almost $500 to fix a fridge less than 4 years old. When I posted about it on Facebook I got a ton of replies about people who had similar issues with Samsung appliances.

RE: Moody Bluff Campground,Tennessee

Let's try again - Google maps says it's the overflow campground loop on the state park map. Go to https://reserve.tnstateparks.com/warriors-path/campsites Then click on the Moody Bluff Campground tab. Thanks for the info.I looked at Google Earth and see where it is now.
